Operator life here is much more relaxed with only two controllers dealing with movements to and from Tilgate or Birchfield, including empty passenger stock, goods, railcar, DMU and light engine movements.  The operator here controls Birchwood yard and will receive, shunt and make up new goods trains for despatch down the line.

There are plenty of opportunities to watch expresses passing at speed on the mainline between Russ Hill and Tilgate. These trains are controlled and signalled between those two stations - Prestwood has no involvement!
