Newspaper Trains

As in the real world during our period of operation there are Newspaper Trains running on the Rusper Railway.

On the 300 series timetable, a train is made up consisting of two coaches borrowed from the Excursion train stabled at Tilgate, plus 3 vans from the yard.  This ECS Papers train travels to Rusper in time for the early edition distribution.  It leaves Rusper for Hookwood at 6.48am making brief stops at stations along the route. On arrival at Hookwood the train is strengthened by the addition of two more vans and later begins a return journey.  When it arrives at Tilgate, hopefully at 7.58am, the coaches are reunited with the Excursion train and the five vans are returned to storage.

The 400 series timetable includes the late morning print run service.  This train is made up at Jordan’s carriage sidings. The brakes and any restaurant car forming the CM3 set are detached, and the three remaining coaches sent off to Tilgate as ECS ½ CM3.

At Tilgate, 2 vans from the yard are added to the train which then proceeds to Rusper as ECS papers.  Late edition papers are loaded and the train leaves for Hookwood a few minutes after midday.  The return working, using the same stock, makes its way to Tilgate arriving just before 1 pm.  Here, the two vans are detached and shunted to storage.  The remaining three coaches leave, down for Jordan’s carriage sidings, via Prestwood as ECS ½ CM3, and are re-united with the rest of CM3 set.

There are no further Newspaper train workings on the timetables.

On 6 shed timetables the later train is made up in Jordans however, when operating  4 or 5 sheds all the trains are made up in Jordans.

Any two coaches from the Excursion train that are not brakes or restaurant / buffet vehicles are acceptable for the early Parcels train.  Coaches in trains made up with part of CM3 rake are as specified in the timetables.
